Sara Antoinette Martin

Sara Antoinette Martin is a young artist based in Brooklyn, NY.

Originally from eastern Long Island, Sara graduated from the Pratt Institute in 2005 with a degree in illustration and hasn't left the borough since.

Often working with themes of sexuality, anger, and the perception of beauty, she filters through her influences from traditional tattoo art, vintage swimsuits, gnarly skate graphics, Masonic symbology, fins, gills and flowers, to create a unique visual language.  She paints strong women and pretty intestines.

For her, creating the image is just as much about the process as it is the final product. In creating a piece, she starts with a final sketch and transfers the separate elements onto paper. She paints the composition in separate parts and collages them back together, essentially breaking down the composition and building it back up again, adding patterns and embellishment. Sara builds these carefully crafted images until they climax into an epic folk story.

Sara also makes toys and comics, and has contributed illustrations to a variety of publications. She recently released her first vinyl toy with Kidrobot, El Chupacabra.
Sara has shown in galleries all over the country, including the Jonathan LeVine Gallery, and is in multiple publications, such as Kidrobot's I Am Plastic. She is currently a resident of the Gowanus Studio Space, a NYFA organization.
